4 Day Wildebeest Migration Calving Season Safari – Ndutu Area

Experience one of nature’s most breathtaking spectacles on this 4-day Wildebeest Calving Season Safari in the Ndutu area — a wildlife haven located in the Southern Serengeti and part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This region offers the best vantage point to witness the Great Migration during the calving season, which takes place between December and March.

During this period, over 500,000 wildebeest calves are born across the open plains, transforming the landscape into a nursery for the next generation. The short grass and vast, open terrain provide excellent visibility for both game viewing and photography. With so many vulnerable newborns, predators such as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and leopards are highly active — offering thrilling opportunities to witness the raw drama of the wild unfold before your eyes.

Why Visit During the Calving Season?

-See Baby Wildebeest Being Born
Each year, between January and March, the vast Ndutu plains come alive as around half a million wildebeest calves are born. It’s a truly magical time — a season of new beginnings where life unfolds before your eyes. Watching a newborn calf take its first wobbly steps just minutes after birth is an unforgettable experience, a moment that
captures the very essence of the wild.

Watch Big Predators in Action
With so many newborn animals on the plains, predators such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas are particularly active during this time. The abundance of vulnerable prey creates countless opportunities to witness dramatic predator-prey interactions and thrilling hunts. This makes the calving season one of the most exciting and rewarding times for game viewing in the Southern Serengeti Ndutu.

-Perfect Time for Wildlife Photography
The calving season offers some of the best photographic opportunities in the Serengeti. The short green grass and open plains provide excellent visibility and soft natural light, ideal for capturing crisp, vibrant images. From tender moments between mothers and calves to dramatic predator encounters, every scene tells a powerful story — making this the perfect time for both amateur and professional photographers to capture the raw beauty of the wild.

-Great for All Types of Travelers
This safari is a good choice for families, photographers, honeymooners, Solo or anyone who loves nature. It’s not rushed, the wildlife action is close by, and the experience is truly magical for both adults and kids.

-Best Time to Book
The Ndutu Calving Season takes place from late December to March, with the peak months of January and February marking the height of the action. This is when the majority of wildebeest calves are born and predator activity is at its most intense — making it an unforgettable time to visit.

Because this season is extremely popular and accommodations fill up fast, we recommend booking at least 2 to 6 months in advance to secure the best camps, guides, and viewing opportunities.
