A Landscape Shaped by Giants

Tarangire has a character all its own. Ancient baobabs rise above rolling savannah, elephants move between woodland and open country, and the Tarangire River becomes a lifeline through the drier months.

The scenery feels wonderfully varied, shifting between riverine habitat, grassland, wooded valleys and broad open spaces. It is a park where the landscape is as memorable as the wildlife, and where the scale of the baobabs gives almost every scene a sense of age and permanence.

Elephant Country at Its Best

Tarangire is especially well known for elephants, and spending time with family groups here can be one of the most rewarding parts of a northern Tanzania safari. Giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, antelope, lions and leopards also share the park, while the birdlife is exceptionally rich.

For photographers, Tarangire offers variety. Elephants beneath baobabs, predators around riverine habitat, birds in changing light and wide landscapes all create very different opportunities within the same park.

With a private vehicle, there is time to stay with a herd, watch behaviour and wait for the scene to become more than just another sighting.

When the River Draws Everything Closer

Tarangire changes noticeably with the seasons, and the wildlife experience changes with it.

JUNE – OCTOBER

The Dry Season

As water becomes scarce across the surrounding landscape, wildlife gathers more heavily around the Tarangire River and permanent water sources. This is one of the strongest periods for elephant viewing and concentrated game activity.

NOVEMBER – MAY

The Green Season

The park becomes greener and more colourful, birdlife flourishes and the landscapes feel fresh and expansive. Wildlife is often more dispersed, but the scenery and photographic conditions can be beautiful.

Each season reveals a different version of Tarangire, from dusty elephant country to lush green wilderness.

Tarangire, Our Way

Tarangire is best experienced slowly.

We prefer to follow the rhythm of the park rather than race through it. That might mean spending an hour with an elephant family, waiting near a river crossing, following a lion through the grass or simply watching late-afternoon light settle across the baobabs.

The best moments are often the ones you cannot schedule.

Observe more. Disturb less.
