7 days Ndutu & Eastern Serengeti Photography Experience
This seven-day photographic safari brings together two very different sides of the Serengeti ecosystem. In Ndutu, the January to March calving season transforms the southern plains into a landscape of movement, new life and intense predator activity. Large concentrations of wildebeest gather across the short-grass plains, followed closely by lions, cheetahs, hyenas and other hunters.
The journey then continues into the Eastern Serengeti and Gol area, where the atmosphere changes completely. Open horizons, granite kopjes, fewer vehicles and dramatic light create exceptional conditions for wildlife photography, particularly for cheetahs and lions using the rocks and plains as natural vantage points.

detailed itinerary
Day 1: Land in Kilimanjaro International Airport / Arusha Airport
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha.
After your journey, the remainder of the day is yours to settle in and recover at an easy pace. Freshen up, relax by the pool, stretch after the flight and prepare yourself for the photographic safari ahead.
This first evening is deliberately unhurried, allowing you to rest before heading into the wilderness the following day.
Overnight: Arusha
Day 2: Fly from Arusha to Ndutu Conservation Area
Today, fly from Arusha to the Ndutu Conservation Area, ideally arriving around lunchtime.
After settling into camp, head out for your first afternoon and evening game drive. Rather than turning the first day into a rushed marathon, the focus is on easing into the landscape, reading the light and beginning to understand the rhythm of the area.
The open plains of Ndutu offer beautiful opportunities for photography, especially when zebra and wildebeest stand against the horizon in late-afternoon light. Lions and cheetahs may also be encountered, while the migrating herds themselves provide endless possibilities for wide environmental compositions and intimate behavioural moments.
Dinner & Overnight: Ndutu
Day 3 & 4: Ndutu: Predator Day & Calving Herds
These two days are dedicated to the heart of the Ndutu experience.
Start well before sunrise, when the plains are quiet, the light is soft and wildlife activity is often at its most rewarding. This is the time to search for wildebeest calves, mothers with newborns, moving herds and the predators that follow them.
Lions, cheetahs, hyenas and leopards all form part of the wider drama of the calving season. The high concentration of prey during this period creates some of the strongest opportunities to observe hunting behaviour, predator-prey interactions and the constant movement of animals across the plains.
The days remain flexible, allowing time to stay with interesting sightings rather than leaving simply because the schedule says so. The emphasis is on patience, positioning and photography, using changing light and animal behaviour to guide each drive.
Dinner & Overnight: Ndutu
Day 5: Ndutu - Eastern Serengeti
Today marks the transition from the calving grounds of Ndutu to the more remote landscapes of the Eastern Serengeti.
Begin with a final sunrise drive in Ndutu before gradually working north-east toward the Gol Kopjes. Although this is a travel day, it is very much part of the photographic experience rather than simply a transfer.
The scenery becomes increasingly open and dramatic, with short-grass plains broken by granite formations. These kopjes create clean backgrounds and strong compositions, particularly for lions resting on the rocks or cheetahs moving through the open grassland.
The aim is to reach camp with enough time remaining for an afternoon or evening drive, taking advantage of the softer light and the different character of this part of the Serengeti. 7 days Ndutu – eastern serenget…
Safari Ends: Arusha / onward connection
Day 6: Eastern Serengeti: Gol Kopjes
This day is devoted entirely to the Eastern Serengeti and Gol Kopjes.
Here, the experience becomes less about large concentrations of animals and more about space, isolation and composition. The broad plains and rocky outcrops create a striking photographic environment where wildlife can be placed naturally within the landscape.
The Gol area is particularly rewarding for cheetah, while lions are often associated with the rocky kopjes, using them as elevated lookout points.
Spend the day working slowly through the area, watching how the light changes across the plains and allowing enough time to build stronger photographic compositions rather than simply collecting sightings.
Overnight: Eastern Serengeti
Day 7: Eastern Serengeti: Final Dawn
Your final morning begins before sunrise.
Head out while the landscape is still cool and quiet, looking for a setting where the vehicle can be positioned to make the best use of the rising sun, whether from behind or from the side.
This last drive is about making the most of the final hours in the field, combining wildlife photography with the broad landscapes that define the Eastern Serengeti.
Continue your game drive gradually toward the airstrip, allowing the safari to end naturally rather than abruptly, with one last opportunity to photograph the Serengeti in the early light.
Safari Ends: Airstrip / onward connection
